The game was designed to reach its maximum score after approximately 17 million years of playtime, in reference to how long the T-Rex existed before it went extinct during the Cretaceous–Paleogene extinction event. The color scheme then alternates as the game progresses.
Once the player reaches around 700 points, the game switches from dark gray graphics on a white background to pale gray graphics on a black background, representing a shift from day to night, with daytime sky graphics also becoming nighttime sky graphics. As the game progresses, the speed of play gradually increases until the user hits an obstacle or a Pterosaur, prompting an instant game over. Pressing space, ↑, or tapping the dinosaur on mobile devices will cause the dinosaur to "leap", while pressing the ↓ key will cause the dinosaur to "crouch". ĭuring the game, the Lonely T-Rex continuously moves from left to right across a black-and-white desert landscape, with the player attempting to avoid oncoming obstacles such as cacti and Pteranodons by jumping or ducking.
Additionally, the game can be accessed by inputting chrome://dino or chrome://network-error/-106 into the Omnibox.

The code name is in reference to Marc Bolan, the lead singer of the band T-Rex.During the development of the Dino Game, it was given the code name "Project Bolan".This is referenced in the mod as alternate poses.There was originally a sprite of the Chrome Dino roaring, made with the intent of showing those who haven't activated the Dino Game that the Chrome Dino is alive, hinting to those that the screen is playable.The Chrome Dino is actually supposed to represent the browser not being able to reach the Internet, as if Google Chrome had the small arms that the T-Rex is known for, not being able to connect to the internet.In Low Signal, they are seen carrying Girlfriend.
Google dino skin#
Once nighttime hits, Chrome Dino's skin somewhat inverts, becoming brighter, while his outline and eyes turn darker. Chrome Dino appears to be is a monochromatic Tyrannosaurus Rex with a white outline and White Eyes.
